USC Upstate got to starting pitcher Nestor Bautista early and often, jumping to a 7-1 lead after two innings. They then cruised on to a 10-1 victory. The Cardinals fell to 1-1 while USC Upstate improved to 2-0. The Cardinals will return to action this weekend against UAB.
The Good
- Relievers Jacob Brewer, Chris Marangon, and Tyler Jordan 3.2 innings of scoreless relief
- Mitch Overley, Tim Issler, and Sean Godfrey each had a hit for the Cardinals
The Bad
- Bautista only lasted 1.1 innings while giving up seven runs on six hits while walking three
- Issler committed an error
- The Cardinals only managed three hits in the game

- This was Bautista’s first career weekend start
- Freshman Scott Baker and Marangon made their career debuts for the Cardinals on the mound
- Elbert Devarie and Jarrett James made their career debuts for the Cardinals in the field
